sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s hockey team registered their first win of the season a whole lot earlier than they did in last year’s inaugural campaign. The Rattlers split the opening weekend of their second full ACAC season, winning one of two games against the SAIT Trojans. The first win for last year’s group didn’t come until the last weekend of the season. MHC beat the Trojans 2-1 Friday night at the Moose, taking the game in overtime. Gabby Hales scored for MHC in the first frame and Anna Stewart made 46 saves in the win. The overtime-winning goal scorer was not recorded. The Rattlers were shutout 1-0 on Sunday at SAIT. Jessika Charron made 35 saves. MHC’s hockey team (1-1) is off this weekend, but they’ll have a pair of home games against the NAIT Ooks on Oct. 18 and 19. Soccer The men’s and women’s soccer teams had one game each over the weekend. Both teams hosted the Ambrose Lions on Saturday, and both teams came away with the win. The Rattler men won 4-1, led by a goal and two assists from Joao Cintra. Ghaiel Miranda, Tata Mugisha and Diego Manrique each scored solo markers, and Stefan Vrska made three saves. The women’s team beat the Lions 2-1, with Alexis Ratke and Olivia Bender each scoring and Rylan Morhart stopping one of two shots she faced. The men (3-1-2) and women (3-4-1) each have two road games this weekend, facing Olds College on Saturday and Red Deer Polytechnic on Sunday. 13
