Canada is golden once again at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Team Canada beat Czechia 2-1 Saturday to win a third-straight gold medal at the U18 tournament hosted in Edmonton.
Forwards Liam Kilfoil (Halifax Mooseheads) and Caleb Desnoyers (Moncton Wildcats) each scored in the first period, and goaltender Jack Ivankovic (Brampton Steelheads) made 18 saves and was named player of the match for Canada.
Medicine Hat Tigers’ forward Gavin McKenna didn’t have a point in the finals game, but recorded three goals and six points in five games at the tournament.
His medal win over the weekend was his second gold medal with Canada in recent months, with a first-place finish at the U18 World Championships in Finland where he scored a Canadian record breaking 10 goals and 20 points in seven games.
Tigers’ forward Cayden Lindstrom scored a goal in Canada’s 3-2 OT win over Czechia at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky tournament.
