The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s premier event kicks off tonight at the Grandstand.
The Summer Pro Rodeo gets underway at 5 p.m. with the first of three days of rodeo action to be on display.
Each night of the summer rodeo has its own atmosphere and crowd that provides fanatics an all-encompassing experience while watching the best cowboys and cowgirls showcase their skills.
Tonight’s show honours the military before the dirt flies, Friday is all about performing under the lights and Saturday is where heartbreak meets glory, while the competitors look to earn their cash.
Friday’s rodeo gets started at 8 p.m. and Saturday afternoon’s showing kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Tickets for the rodeo are still available on the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s website, tickets.mhstampede.com. Passes for each individual rodeo goes for $35.
With North America’s top talent on full display, there are numerous local cowboys and cowgirls who will took to dance on the dirt and shine in front of family and friends.
Due to the number of participants, Thursday morning is slack performances which feature multiple local talents getting started at 8:30 a.m.
Clark Hughson of Medicine Hat is competing in the slack tie-down roping event.
There are four local participants in the slack steer wrestling event, with Francois-Pier J Goul and Trina Marshall of Cypress County, Tate Beierbach and William Beierbach of Maple Creek all competing for early benchmark times.
Taylor Wudrich of Bow Island and Clint Schreiner from Medicine Hat will ride in Thursday’s team roping. Kevin Schreiner of Medicine Hat and Travis Nicholson of Irvine will also work together in Thursday’s team roping event.
Kerry Maynes of Maple Creek will run the figure-eight in Thursday’s barrel racing and Blake Link, also of Maple Creek, will compete in Thursday’s bareback riding.
Three local cowboys will compete Friday night under the lights, with Wyatt Mines of Elkwater looking for an eight-second run in the bareback event, and both Maple Creek’s Jared Parsonage and Dakota Butter of Eatonia, Sask. competing in the bullring event.
Haven Meged of Miles City, Mont., is competing in Friday’s tie-down roping. He’s coming off a win at the Ponoka Stampede.
Medicine Hat’s Tyler Popescul will look for a quick time in Saturday’s tie-down roping event.
