Softball roundup: U19 Thunder capture provincial bronze

The Medicine Hat U19B Thunder won bronze over the weekend in Irma.

The Thunder had a trio of wins during provincials action.

They kicked things off with an 11-2 win Friday over the Irma Tigers.

Madi Perry had two RBIs on two this with a run scored and both Riley Sweet and Ryan Harvery-Zenk had two runs scored with a hit. Maddy Ferguson had two RBIs with two hits and a run scored.

Albany Mastel pitched a complete game, recording six Ks in five innings of work.

They lost the second game Friday, falling 8-6 to the Leduc Jets.

Sweet had two RBIs with a hit and a run scored and Harvey-Zenk tallied a hit with an RBI and a run scored.

Raquel Snideman started the game, working two innings with two strikeouts. Sweet pitched three innings with two strikeouts and Mastel finished the game with an inning pitched.

They carried the momentum Saturday with a pair of wins, starting the day with an 11-9 victory over the West Valley Warriors.

Perry led the way offensively with four RBIs on two hits with two runs scored and Snideman scored three times, notching a hit and an RBI. MJ Andrew had two RBIs on two hits with a run scored and Kassidy hart notched two hits with two runs scored.

Mastel worked a complete game, recording two Ks in seven innings pitched.

They beat the Sherwood Park Storm 10-6 to end the day Saturday.

Sweet had three RBIs with two hits and two runs scored and Kailey Hockley tallied three RBIs with three hits and a run scored.

Mastel started the contest, with six innings pitched and eight strikeouts. Sweet worked the last two frames, with two strikeouts.

The Thunder lost the first game on Sunday, falling 10-2 to the SBR Rockies.

Harvey-Zenk had two hits with an RBI and a run scored and Perry tallied a hit and a run scored.

Mastel pitched the full game, with three strikeouts in four innings of work.

They lost the final game of the weekend, falling 13-5 to the Irma Tigers.

Andrew had two hits with two RBIs and a run scored and both Harvery-Zenk and Perry had a run scored with a hit.

Sweet pitched all five innings for the Thunder, recording one strikeout.

The U19B Thunder will return to Irma for the Western Canadian Championships on Aug. 8-11.

U15

The U15B Thunder Red were in provincials action in St. Albert over the weekend.

The Thunder lost the first game, falling 11-0 Friday to the West Valley Dirt Squirrels.

Both Sophia Stock and Jaycee Pope had a hit. Kendall Smith started the game, pitching 2.2 innings with four strikeouts and Emily Kleemiola finished the game with a strikeout.

They also lost to the Lloydminster Liners 18-1.

Emily Agar-Weninger had a hit with an RBI and Stock had a run scored with a hit.

Avery Regehr started the game and Kianna Mastel finished the contest with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched.

The Thunder Red lost the first game Sunday, falling 11-0 to the U15B Selects.

Smith worked on the mound for the Thunder, with tow strikeouts.

They lost the second game Sunday, falling 5-4 to Parkland.

Tayler Soveran-Welte had two hits with two runs scored and Stock had a hit with an RBI.

Kleemola started the game, working three innings with two strikeouts. Mastel finished the contest, with an inning pitched.

U13

The Medicine Hat U13 Thunder Black had two games of provincials action over the weekend.

They lost 15-4 to the Lethbridge Heat on Thursday.

Olivia F had a hit with a run scored and an RBI and both Hadley V and AJ S had a hit with a run scored (no last names provided).

Addy D started the game, with a punch-out in 1.1 innings pitched. Farren C worked 1.2 innings with two punch-outs.

The Thunder lost Friday, falling 18-3 to the YYC Sonic.

Breanna L and Calico J each had a hit with an RBI and Nellie C had a hit with a run scored.

Nellie C also started the contest on the mound, with a strikeout in 1.1 innings pitched. Madelyn U worked 1.2 innings on the mound.
