American Legion: Monarchs pick up pair of weekend wins

The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs had a winning weekend at home.

The Monarchs won two of three American Legion games over the Bozeman Bucks over the weekend at Athletic Park.

They kicked things off with a 7-6 win Saturday.

Cade Harrison had two hits with two RBIs and a run scored, Jeff Bullock had two RBIs with a hit and a run scored and Pryce Velichko scored a run with a hit and an RBI.

Bullock started the game on the mound, recording four punch-outs in 4.1 innings pitched. Trevin Ressler worked two thirds of an inning with a strikeout and Harrison finished the game with two innings pitched and three strikeouts.

They won the first game Sunday, beating Bozeman 5-2.

Harrison had three RBIs on two hits and Kayne Olinski tallied two RBIs with a hit. Both of Aidan Eckersall and Bullock had two runs scored with a hit.

Ryler Straarup started the game, striking out 11 batters in 6.1 innings pitched. Ressler worked the last two outs of the game.

The Monarchs lost the last game of the weekend, falling 5-2.

Olinski had two RBIs with a hit.

Cade Moch started the game, working four innings with two strikeouts. Asha Frey came into the game in relief, pitching three innings with a punch-out.

Knights

The Knights of Columbus had an eight-game week that saw them pick up four wins.

They opened the week with a pair of games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday they split with the Fort Macleod Royals, losing the first game 13-4.

Ethan Chenard had two RBIs with a hit and Ayden Anderson had a hit with an RBI and a run scored in the loss. James Cole started the game, working 5.1 innings with two strikeouts.

Anderson came into the game in relief, with 1.1 innings pitched and Ethan Bowey finished the game with the final out.

The Knights bounced back for a 7-6 win over the Royals.

Liam Cunningham had the walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

Ward Davies had three hits with a run scored, Kane Bishop had two hits with an RBI and a run scored.

Davies worked a complete game on the mound, with one strikeout in seven innings pitched.

They had two games Wednesday, sweeping the Tri-County Cardinals.

Medicine Hat won the first game, beating the Cardinals 10-7.

Grad had two runs scored with two hits and an RBI and Cunningham tallied two hits with an RBI and a run scored.

Jayden Mook pitched a full game, working seven innings with six strikeouts.

They carried the momentum into a bloated, 11-1 win over Tri-County.

Davies had two RBIs with two hits, Owen Fisher and two RBIs with two hits and a run scored and Ty Meyer worked two runs scored on two hits.

Cunningham pitched all five innings for the Knights, notching one punch-out.

The Knights had four games over the weekend, ending the stretch with a win.

They lost the first game of the weekend, falling 11-1 to the Lethbridge Miners on Saturday.

Davies had two hits and Anderson had a run scored in the loss. Anderson started the game, with 3.1 innings pitched with a strikeout. Bowey had two innings of work with a strikeout and Fisher recorded the final out.

They lost to the Miners in a second game Saturday, falling 14-1.

Chenard had a hit with an RBI in the loss.

Cole worked 1.2 innings to start the game, recording one K. Chenard finished the game, working 3.1 innings.

They had two games against the Vauxhall Spurs on Sunday, dropping the first contest 4-1.

Grad and Cunningham each had two hits and Meyer had a hit and an RBI.

Davies started the game, working four innings with two strikeouts and Cunningham pitched the final two innings.

They finished the weekend with a 15-2 drubbing of the Spurs.

Cunningham recorded four hits with an RBI and two runs scored and Chenard had three runs scored with two hits and two RBIs.

Meyer had two RBI with two runs scored and a hit. He also started the game on the mound, working five innings.

Cunningham worked in relief, with two strikeouts in an inning pitched.

The Knights (26-26) head to Lethbridge on Thursday for Districts.
