The Medicine Hat Mavericks ended their season season with Moose Jaw on a high note.

The Mavs won 11-6 Wednesday at Moose Jaw over the Miller Express, winning the season series 7-3. Medicine Hat came into the contest off a pair of off days on Monday and Tuesday after beating the Millers twice in a three-game set at Athletic Park last weekend.

The Mavs opened the scoring Wednesday in grand fashion.

Medicine Hat loaded the bases with two outs, setting the scene for left fielder Micah Dvorak who pulled a ball over the right field fence for his first home run of the season. His grand slam put the Mavs ahead 4-0 early.

They added to the lead in the third inning, utilizing the long ball once again.

Right fielder Jordan Phillips turned on a ball and hit it over the right field fence, plating two runs with his seventh home run of the season for a 6-0 lead.

Mavs’ starter Aidan Lenzen held the Millers at bay and hitless through four innings. The lone blemish he allowed in his start was a solo home run in the fifth inning off the bat of Nate Mensik. Lenzen finished his night with the lone hit and run allowed, striking out eight batters in his six innings pitched for the win.

The Mavs added three runs in the top of the seventh inning, jumping ahead 9-1.

A trio of RBI singles gave Medicine Hat the three-run seventh inning, with shortstop Johnny Vulcano, third baseman Blake Dale and catcher Jaden Babiuk all recorded one-run singles to add to the lead.

Moose Jaw responded in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs on relief pitcher Adam Golby.

The Millers scored a run on an RBI single from Austin Gurney and added a pair on Mensik’s second home run of the night, a two-run blast to make it a 9-4 game after seven innings. Golby had a strikeout in his inning pitched, allowing the three runs on four hits.

Medicine Hat added two more runs to the tally, scoring a run in the eighth and ninth innings.

Centre fielder Brody Gardner scored on an errant throw from the outfield in the eighth and Vuclano scored on an error on a Moose Jaw double play, for an 11-4 lead.

Brett Getz took over on the mound for the Mavs in the eighth and worked into the ninth.

Moose Jaw made a comeback bid in the final frame, scoring a run on a bases-loaded walk from Nathan Houston and an RBI single up the middle off the bat of Thomas Soto. Braeden Davis took over on the mound with two outs and the bases loaded. He recorded a three-pitch strikeout to end the game and preserve the Mavs’ 11-6 final score.
