The Medicine Hat Mavericks were held off the scoresheet Saturday. The Mavs were limited to five hits at Regina, falling to the Red Sox 4-0. Saturday’s loss snaps the Mavs two-game win streak to start their five-game Saskatchewan road trip that started with back-t0-back wins over the Saskatoon Berries. Regina starting pitcher Daniel Crabtree recorded his second complete game of the season, striking out three batters while only allowing the five hits and a walk. The Red Sox opened the scoring in the first inning, getting ahead with the eventual game winning run on an RBI single. They added another run in the second inning, scoring on a single to right field. They doubled up on offence in the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs on a single to third base and a single to left field for a 4-0 lead. Medicine Hat starter John Walsh was lifted in the fourth inning after surrendering the pair of runs. He finished his day with 3.1 innings pitched, allowing nine hits, four runs and a walk with four strikeouts. Cesar Rodriguez took over on the mound and worked 3.1 innings with four punch-outs, allowing just one hit and one walk. Mavs’ reliever Evan Gent took over in the seventh inning and worked through the eighth, striking out two batters and giving up just one hit in his 1.1 innings on the mound. Regina outhit the Mavs 11-5, both teams committed one error. Saturday was the second time the Mavs have been shut out this season, the first coming in a 13-0 loss to the Fort McMurray Giants on June 3. The Mavs (18-14) are back at Regina on Sunday for an afternoon rematch with the Red Sox. 10
