The Medicine Hat U11 Thunder Red returned from weekend action with a provincial gold.
The Thunder won three of the four games on their weekend slate. Their lone loss game in the first game, falling 15-0 to the Herbert Adrenaline on Saturday.
The Thunder had no hits in the loss. Julie G started the game on the mound, working two punch-outs in 1.1 innings on the mound. Trinity R worked an out on the bump (no last names provided).
The Thunder bounced back with an 11-5 win over the Irma Tigers later in the day.
Harper N had two hits with two RBIs and a run scored, and Finley K had three hits with an RBI. Madison B recorded two runs scored with a hit. No pitching statistics were recorded.
The Thunder carried momentum into Sunday, with an 8-6 win over the Camrose Crossfire Red.
Alexis M had two RBIs on a hit with a run scored, and both Madison B and Harlo G tallied two runs scored with a hit each.
Madison B started the game on the mound, recording two punch-outs in two innings of work. Harlo G pitched the last three innings of the game, with seven strikeouts.
They finished play Sunday with an 11-7 win over the Leduc Jets.
Madison B had two hits with two runs scored and two RBIs and Alexis M tallied two runs scored on two hits with an RBI.
Alexis M worked 1.1 innings on the mound with three strikeouts and Trinity R had five punch-outs in two innings pitched.
The Thunder earned their spot in the finals with a 16-5 win Monday over the Olds Pistols Black.
Harlo G led the offence with six RBIs on two hits with two runs scored and Harper N had two hits with three runs scored and an RBI.
Alexis M started the game and worked two innings with two strikeouts. Harlo G also pitched two innings with three punch-outs. Trinity R worked the final inning, recording one strikeout.
The Thunder captured provincials gold with a 16-10 win over the St. Albert Angels.
In a back and forth game, the Thunder Red’s bats came alive in the last inning to win the game. Going into the final at bat, they led 11-10 and Julie G, Scarlett M, Madison B, Alexis M, Elle O and Finley K all put together consecutive hits to score five runs and put the game out of reach to clinch the gold.
Finley K had three RBIs on three hits with a run scored and both Alexis M and Elle O had two hits with two RBIs. Harper N had an RBI on two hits and two runs scored and Scarlett M had two hits with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Alexis M started the contest on the mound and worked three innings with three strikeouts. Harlo G finished the game on the mound, striking out two batters.
