U17 Thunder win bronze in weekend softball tourney

The Medicine Hat U17 Thunder took third place in a tournament this weekend.

The Thunder won bronze at the Best in the West softball tournament in St. Albert, winning three of six games, notching a tie with two losses.

They kicked the weekend off with a 6-3 win Saturday over the SBR Rockies.

Gracie Eddy had a hit and an RBI and Gracie Ulmer notched a hit and a run scored.

On the mound, Ryleigh Jackiw started the game and pitched 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. Maia Petersen recorded two Ks in 1.1 innings of work.

Their first loss of the weekend came against the U17A Rage, falling 6-1.

Mackenzie Tindall and Peterson each recorded a hit, Sydney Thompson scored the lone run.

Adriene Campbell started the game and had seven strikeouts in three innings pitched. Peterson worked the final inning, with a strikeout.

They bounced back with a 2-2 draw with the Leduc Jets U17B.

Tindall had a hit and an RBI and Jackiw had a hit with a run scored.

Petersen started the contest on the mound, with three strikeouts with two innings pitched. Campbell finished the game, striking out nine of the 11 batters she faced in three innings.

They wrapped up play Saturday with a 9-0 win over the River City Hornets Yellow.

Eddy led the offence with two RBIs and two runs scored on three hits. Petersen added two RBIs on two hits with a run scored. Morgan Brown also had two RBIs and a hit.

Campbell pitched a complete game, with four punch outs in three innings of work.

The Thunder lost the first game Sunday, falling 2-1 to the Calgary Kaizen Black, sending them to the bronze medal game.

Tindall had a hit and an RBI in the loss and Eddy scored the lone run. Campbell pitched all four innings, with four strikeouts.

The Thunder won the bronze in deciding fashion, with a 9-3 victory over the Leduc Jets Elite.

Thompson led the offence with four hits, notching an RBI and three runs scored.

Both Jackiw and Tindall recorded two hits with two runs scored and an RBI.

Petersen started the contest on the mound, recording five Ks in four innings pitched.

Campbell finished the game, notching four strikeouts in three innings of work.
