The Medicine Hat Mavericks kick off their first three-game road trip of the season today.

The Mavs get things started with their first look at Cairns Field, home of the Saskatoon Berries, tonight in the opener of a two-game set that finishes Thursday.

The Mavs have faced and beat the Berries twice at Athletic Park this season, with a 13-8 win on May 29 and a 20-7 victory on May 30.

The last time Medicine Hat played in Saskatoon was against the former Yellow Jackets franchise, an 8-6 win on June 8, 2014. Wednesday’s game also marks a homecoming for Mavs’ infielder and Saskatoon product Tyler Vanneste.

The Mavs will head to Regina on Friday to face the Red Sox at Currie Field. It’s the first time the two teams have faced off since Medicine Hat eliminated the Red Sox with a two-game sweep in the second round of the 2023 WCBL playoffs.

The Mavs head into the weekend holding first place in the East division with an 8-4 record. Regina sits in second, a game back of the Mavs, with a 7-5 record entering play Tuesday.

Saskatoon was set to play the Swift Current 57’s on Monday but that game was postponed due to weather. Regina faced the 57’s on Tuesday, that game was not finished by press time.

Medicine Hat returns back to the friendly confines of Athletic Park on Saturday for the first of a two-game set against the Moose Jaw Miller Express that includes a Father’s Day matchup on Sunday.
