newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews On Friday in the opening game of the Riley Martin Memorial Tournament the McCoy JV Colts lost a very well played game by a score of 2-1 to the host Brooks Buffalos. Nixon Kunkel, Owen Fisher and Tegin Stienley had the only hits for McCoy JV. Jayden Mook pitched four shutout innings in relief while striking out five batters. The JV Colts bounced back with a hard fought 7-5 victory over the Cardston Cougars on Friday evening. Liam Cunningham got the win by allowing two earned runs and striking out five. James Cole picked up the save with three innings of hitless relief, allowing no walks and striking out four. Ryder Todd had two hits and Dylan Nelson drove in two runs for the McCoy JV squad. On Saturday morning the JV Colts earned a spot in the championship game with a 12-0 win over the Willow Creek Cobras. Fisher, Reed Hall, Ethan Grad and Nelson combined for the shutout on the mound. The pitching staff allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out 10 combined hitters in the game. Cunningham, Grad and Nelson each had two hits to lead the offence. Kylan Mailhiot chipped in with a hit and a run scored. Aaron Recio got the start in the championship and gave a strong performance, getting through 3.2 innings, however the Brooks Buffalos’ offence came through in the end with an 11-8 victory. McCoy JV battled back as they had the go-ahead run at the plate with the bases loaded in the 7th inning but couldn’t push any more runs across. Grad had a huge game at the plate by going 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored, including a three-run home run over the left field wall. Kunkel chipped in with two hits and two runs scored. The JV Colts now have a record of 6-4 on the season. They played a regular season game Tuesday, a rematch with the Buffalos in SAHBL Tier 1 league play. No score was known by press time. 8
