McCoy Colts start regular season off with win over Hawks

The Monsignor McCoy Colts senior boys baseball team opened their regular season in style.

The Colts beat the Medicine Hat High Hawks 7-6 Wednesday night in Alberta Premier Baseball League play.

Fischer Haysom started on the mound for McCoy and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing three runs while striking out seven batters. Cole Carlson took over on the bump and threw 1.1 innings. JJ Harnett pitched the final two innings, allowing one run to earn the win.

Offensively, Tate Bowal led the way for the Colts with three hits, including a double and a triple. Bowal also scored twice and had three RBIs. Jack Hackett came through with a clutch single, producing the game-winning RBI in the top of the seventh inning for McCoy. Landon MacPherson had a big night at the plate for the Hawks as he tallied four hits with a double, triple, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Next action for the Colts is May 1 when they face Kate Andrews High School at 3 p.m. and Raymond High School at 6 p.m, both games at McCoy Field.

The Hawks are in action the same night at Jeffries Park, facing Raymond at 3 p.m. and Kate Andrews at 6 p.m.
