Knights look good in opening weekend of Legion baseball

The Medicine Hat Knights kicked off their American Legion season in winning fashion on the weekend.

The Knights won both of their exhibition contests Sunday against the U16 Calgary Premier Blues, winning 13-9 and 11-6.

Logan Cunningham led the way offensively in the first win with four hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. Cole Carlson had two hits with a run scored and an RBI, while Dylan Amundson added three RBIs on one hit.

Amundson started the game, earning three strikeouts in two innings. Ward Davies struck out two in two innings of work, Ethan Bowey pitched two frames and Tyler Meyer recorded a punch-out in his lone inning of work.

The Knights were led in their second win by Jayden Mook and Davies, who each recorded two hits with a run scored and an RBI. Amundson tallied two RBIs with a hit and run scored.

Meyer started the game, notching two strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Cunningham took over for two outs, including a punch-out.

Kane Bishop pitched 1.2 innings with three strikeouts and Ethan Chernard was credited with the win after three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.

Monarchs

The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs hosted a weekend tournament at Jeffries Park, playing in five games.

They opened their tournament with an 8-7 walk-off win Saturday morning over the Lethbridge Longhorns.

The Monarchs were down 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning and took the victory off a two-RBI double from JJ Harnett, who had two hits in the game.

Cade Moch started the game on the mound, recording three strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched. Harnett worked 1.1 innings himself, with a strikeout, and Ryder Tweten pitched a clean inning.

The Monarchs lost their second game, falling 6-4 to the Regina White Sox.

Asha Frey, Much and Bullock each had a hit and an RBI in the loss. Parker Hunt started the game and recorded one out before Tweten took over for the remaining two outs with a punch-out. Cole Carlson pitched the remaining three innings, recording three strikeouts.

The Monarchs bounced back with a 4-3 win over the BAEL Cardinals.

Ryler Straarup and Cade Harrison recorded RBIs for the Moose. Harrison started the game, fanning six batters in four innings of work. Frey pitched the remaining inning.

They wrapped up play Saturday with a 5-4 win over the Regina Wolfpack.

Bullock had two RBIs on one hit with a run scored and picked up the win on the mound with eight strikeouts in three innings pitched. Straarup recorded the save with five strikeouts in two innings pitched.

The Moose finished their weekend with an 11-9 loss in a rematch with the Regina White Sox.

Kayne Olisnki had two hits with three RBIs and two runs scored, Bullock notched two hits and both Harrison and Lance MacPherson had two RBIs.

Kobe Eskestrand recorded four strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched, Harnett worked 1.1 innings and Pryce Velichko recorded two outs on the mound.
