Cubs stave off elimination, force Game 4 Sunday at the Kinplex

The Medicine Hat Cubs live to see another day.

The Cubs came back and scored twice in the third period to win Game 3 over the Sylvan Lake Wranglers Saturday night at the Kinplex.

The win keeps them alive in the best of five, third round series and sets up Game 4 Sunday at the Kinplex.

The Cubs scored first with two goals in the opening three minutes of the first period.

Darnell Glasgo and Hayden King found the back of the net within 22 seconds of each other to put Medicine Hat ahead 2-0 2:37 into the game. Makhi Carriere had the lone assist on Glasgo’s second of the playoffs and Jamal Shaw and Joshua Drefs had the helpers on Kings’ first of the postseason.

Sylvan Lake scores three unanswered to end the first period with a 3-2 lead.

Aydden Shaw for the Wranglers on the board with a power play goal at 5:48. Hunter Adrian tied the game up with 5:49 left in the opening period and Justin Gyori scored with 13 second left for the 3-2 lead.

Neither team scored in the second period, with the Cubs leading the game in shots 29-21 through 40 minutes.

Just over the halfway point of the third period, Kyle Woolridge scored on a power play to tie the game up at 3-3. Callen Prosofsky and Caleb Garrecht had the helpers.

Sylvan Lake pushed late but the Cubs held on for the 4-3 win, keeping their playoff run alive.

Tyler Wakelam made 31 saves for the win, across the ice from him, Peyton Lobe also made 31 saves for the Wranglers.

Game 4 of the series is Sunday at the Kinplex, puck drop at 5:30 p.m. If the Cubs win, Game 5 would return back to Sylvan Lake on Friday.
