U17 SAHA men finish fourth at Canadian Crown

The South Albert Hockey Academy’s U17 men’s team played in the consolation final at the Canadian Crown tournament.

SAHA’s U17 team played five games at the tournament hosted in Edmonton by the North Alberta Xtreme academy, finishing in fourth place.

They opened their tournament with a 7-4 win Friday over the Edmonton Canadians.

Ty Hynes had two goals with an assist and two players had two points, with Ty Wasyluk notching two goals and Berkley Kufflick a goal and an assist. Jack Elliott and Koen Gauthier each scored and Theron Bensler had two assists. Mattias Radke made 31 saves.

SAHA dropped their second game, falling 6-3 to the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Kingston Chisholm had two goals and Kufflick had a goal with an assist. Steven Wawryk made 40 saves.

They bounced back later in the day with an 8-3 win over the PAC Saints. Hynes recorded a hat trick and Gauthier added two goals with an assist. Both Brennan Finke and Kingston Chisholm had a goal and an assist and Nate Grinevitch had a solo marker. Thomas Papas made 32 saves in the win.

SAHA lost their lone game Sunday, falling 5-2 to the NAX Prep Blue. Grady McLeod and Gauthier each scored and Radke made 46 saves.

They ended their tournament with an 8-2 loss to the Calgary Northstars in the consolation final Monday. Ryker Klassen and Jacob Penley each scored, and in net, Wawryk and Radke split duties with 31 saves.

U18

SAHA’s U18 men’s team had only one game over the weekend, a 5-4 shootout win Friday over RINK Winnipeg. Trip Jensen and Cohen Carter each had a goal and an assist and both Bruno Petrovics and Brayden Ryan-MacKay each scored as well.

Ben Polhill made 27 saves and turned aside all three shootout chances. Carter Cunningham scored the shootout winner.

SAHA’s U18 men’s team (17-9-1) have two home games this weekend, hosting the Edge School on Saturday and Pilot Mound Hockey Academy on Sunday.

U18 women

The U18 women’s team played a three-game set this weekend against the Northern Alberta Xtreme, picking up two wins.

They started the weekend with a 2-0 shutout led by Maddy Ferguson’s 21 saves. Keira Grant tallied a goal and an assist and Keyana Bert scored a solo marker.

Their only loss of the weekend came Saturday, falling 4-2. Julie Barlow and Kiyra Kletzel each scored and Tayler Cohen made 13 saves.

SAHA rebounded with a win Sunday, beating NAX 2-1. In a repeat of Friday’s game, Grant had a goal and an assist and Bert tallied a solo marker. Ferguson and Cohen split duties making a combined 35 saves.

SAHA’s U18 women’s team (12-12) have a four-game road set this weekend.
