The Medicine Hat U16 Mercury ringette team travelled to the Bridge Battle Tournament in Saskatoon this weekend.
The Mercury captured their first medal of the season, finishing second with a silver medal.
In the first game of the tournament, the Mercury skated to a 7-4 win over the Regina Cyclones. Ryleigh Jackiw scored four times, Jayna Allchurch had a goal and two assists and both Erika Want and Margot Kerr had a solo marker. Eden Schmunk had four assists.
They took their second round-robin game in blowout fashion, beating the Saskatoon Snipers 10-1. Jackiw scored three times with two assists, Maren Berstad had a goal with two assists, Allchurch and Kerr scored twice and both Wright and Want tallied a goal.
The Mercury beat the Sherwood Park Rage 9-3 in their third round-robin game. Jackiw had three goals and two assists, Heidinger and Kerr scored twice, Want had a goal and two helpers and Wright added a solo marker.
Finishing 3-0 in the round robin, the Mercury met the Leduc Jaguars in the semifinals and won 7-2. Emma Pinnell stood tall in net, with Jackiw tallying three goals with an assist. Wright scored twice with an assist and both Allchurch and Kerr scored.
The Mercury met the Regina Cyclones in the gold medal game, falling short of the gold. Wright, Want and Jackiw each scored in the finals.
The silver medal sets up the Mercury for play downs, which begin on Feb. 24 in Calgary.
U19
The U19 Live Wire also competed at the Bridge Battle Tournament in Saskatoon, capturing gold.
The Live Wire opened the tournament against the Regina Reign, who scored early in the contest before Medicine Hat chipped away for a 4-3 win.
They were led offensively by Hannah Thompson with two goals, while Kasey Martin and Bella Heinrichs each added singles, Kyrie Stern-Rebmann held her own in net.
The Live Wire faced Sherwood Park Slash in their second game, picking up a 3-2 win with two goals from Sophie Kerr and one from Martin.
Medicine Hat’s Live Wire played the Saskatoon Sabotage in their third game, taking early control with a 5-1 lead into the half. They added six more goals in the second half to earn a 11-1 victory.
Kayla Robinson tallied three goals, Thompson and Kerr each added two goals with singles coming from Kam Reid, Martin, Natasha Unreiner and Savannah Savoy.
The Live Wire earned a spot in the gold medal game on Sunday with a 3-0 close to the round robin.
They had a rematch with the Reign for gold, coming out on top 2-1 after holding on to the lead late. Martin scored late in the first half for Medicine Hat and Robinson added a goal in the second half for the eventual game winner. Stern-Rebmann stood tall in net for the win.
Next up for the U19 Live Wire is the first round of the provincial play downs Feb. 24 in Calgary.
U14
The Medicine Hat Mayhem played a doubleheader over the weekend against South Calgary. Calgary South took the first game by a score of 12-5, Mayhem’s offence came from Sloane Berstad with four goals and Jillian Stodalka with a solo marker.
In the Second matchup, the Medicine Hat Mayhem won 4-3. Breanna Lanuk scored twice, Kristyn Want and Berstad each found the back of the net.
The Medicine Hat Mayhem are off until Feb. 24 when they start play downs.
U12
The U12 Medicine Hat Fury were on the road this weekend for league games in Calgary.
The Fury dropped their first game 8-3 to Calgary Bow View. Danna Sawchuk was in goal and Fury goals were scored by Kassidy Etienne, Ally Martin and Brinley Cross.
Their second game against Calgary South ended in a 5-5 tie, with Sawchuk in net again and goals coming from Olivia Ulbricht and Cross with two each and Peyton Howes tallying a solo marker.
The Fury are on the road again for games in Cochrane and Calgary on the weekend.
The U12C Royal played two games in Calgary on Saturday against the Bow View Hot Shots, tying both games.
Haven Ward, Jorja Sadler and Katie-Lee Sehn each scored twice and Sadie Sackman found twine in a 7-7 draw.
Sehn scored three times, Sadler tallied two markers and each of Rielle Forsyth, Rhya Weinberger and Arika McDowall scored in an 8-8 tie.
Grace Stirling was in net for both games
The Royals play next on Saturday at the Moose.
U10
The U10 Step 3 Gators hosted the Cochrane Rockies over the weekend, with a 4-3 win in their first game. Katie Vis, Charlie Lowe, Sloan Loehndorf and Zoe Aarden each scored for the Gators.
Their second game was equally as exciting, ending in a 7-7 tie. Lowe and Loehndorf each tallied two goals and singles came from Eris Davies, Aarden and Vis.
The Step 3 Gators are back in action next weekend when they visit Lethbridge.
The U10 Step 2 Gators had a doubleheader against Strathmore on Saturday and travelled to Rockeyford on Sunday.
Jayla-Ray Klaudt led the Step 2 gators in goals with six for the weekend. Blaire Dirk scored four times and Kyler Drever chipped in with 2 goals.
Their next games are at home, Feb. 25.
Open
The Open C Force played two games this weekend in Stavely. Their first game was against the Calgary Bandits, where they came out on top 10-9.
Jurnee Elliot led the way with five goals and each of Brooklyn Burzminski, Amanda Beaudoin, Rayelle Smith, Kennedy Wilson and Jensen Wilk found the back of the net.
The Force’s next game was against the Calgary Fire, finishing in a 3-3 tie. Elliot carried the torch, scoring all three goals for the Force. Jordyn Clark was in net for both games.
