JV Hawks win

weekend tourney

The Medicine Hat High’s junior varsity boys’ basketball team emerged as champions at the Our Lady of the Rockets tournament held in Calgary.

The opening round set the stage for the Hawks’ journey to victory as they faced off against the All Saints, who hold the top position in the JV South Calgary basketball league. In a closely contested match, MHHS secured a hard-fought victory with a final score of 62-55.

The semifinals witnessed a dominant performance from the Hat High team as they overpowered Henry Wisewood 91-62.

The Hawks had a battle in the finals, squaring off against Sir Winston Churchill for the championship game. Hat High managed to withstand a last-second shot attempt by Churchill, clinching victory by the narrowest of margins, 53-52.

Sammy Salazar-Bojorquez was named the Calgary Surge tournament MVP.

The JV team adds another feather to its cap with the tournament win, having already secured victories in two other tournaments this season. The JV Hawks, with a record of 15-3, look to continue their success on the road in league play against Magrath and Raymond this week. They also travel to Foothills for a tournament on Friday and Saturday.
