They opened the ACAC season with a fourth-place finish at the Concordia Thunder Open in Edmonton on Saturday. Maddy Scrimger led the way for the MHC women recording individual wins in both the women’s 1,500m and 3,000m races. Scrimger, along with Brooklyn Kaczynski, Mitzuki Iwata and Pyper Gill also ran to a third-place finish in the 4 x 400m relay. On the men’s side, Shintaro Iwata was the leading Rattler performerm recording a third-place finish in the men’s 600m. The men’s 4 x 200 relay team, consisting of Iwata, Justin Jager, Colton Robinson and Ryker Leipert, finished second in the 4 x 200m relay. Next up for the Rattlers indoor runners is ACAC No. 2 in Red Deer on Feb. 10. Ice Hockey The Rattlers women’s hockey team was on the road this weekend for two games against the Red Deer Polytechnic. They lost 7-0 on Friday and 13-0 on Saturday. Jessika Charron made 56 saves in the Rattlers’ net on Friday and Kinlee Fahselt made 17 saves in Saturday’s loss. MHC’s women’s hockey team (0-18) host the Olds College Broncos on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. Sunday, both games at the Moose Rec Centre. Basketball The Rattlers men’s and women’s basketball teams hosted the SAIT Trojans for two games each on Thursday and Saturday. The men’s team dropped both games, falling 107-67 on Thursday and 100-82 on Saturday. Jordan Biggar and Cooper Ward each had 12 points in Thursday’s loss. Biggar led the offence on Saturday with 29 points, and Ward recored a triple-triple with 14 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. The women’s team also lost their week slate, falling 67-50 on Thursday and 76-59 on Saturday. Jordyn Knight led the offence Thursday with 15 points, Jaida Gold tallied 11 points with 12 rebounds. Breanna O’Connor led the way Saturday with 17 points. The men (3-13) and women (2-14) have one road game each this week, taking on Ambrose University on Friday. Volleyball MHC’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams took on the SAIT Trojans over the weekend. The men’s team split the weekend, with a 3-1 win Friday and a 3-2 loss on Saturday. Friday’s win (25-19, 21-25, 27-25, 25-21) was led by Nathan Chernik’s 18 kills, with Jordan McKee adding 15 of his own. Both Chernik and McKee had 20 kills in Saturday’s five-set loss (22-25, 34-32, 21-25, 26-24, 14-16). The women’s team dropped both games, falling in three sets Friday (18-25, 12-25, 21-25) and four sets Saturday (25-21, 15-25, 20-25, 30-32). Campbell Bosch had six kills in Friday’s loss and Jaivyn Barber recorded 18 kills on Saturday. The men (3-10) and women (0-13) have two games each this weekend, hosting the Ambrose Lions on Friday before hitting the road for a rematch on Saturday. 25
