The Medicine Hat Boxing Club was between the ropes in Calgary this weekend.
The local boxing club had two fighters compete at the show. Nate Vossler defeated Tahis Tahan from Olympus by unanimous decision in the 60 kg Open Youth. Jacob Walne defeated Tony Constanza from Olympus in the 54 kg Open Junior by unanimous decision.
The Boxing Club is hosting the 19th annual Nieman/Page Memorial and Alberta Silver Gloves Saturday and Sunday at the Medicine Hat Lodge.
There will be boxers coming from the across Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan with two shows on Saturday and one Sunday.
The memorial boxing tournament is named in honour of Ev Nieman and Bill Page, two Hatters who played big roles in the Medicine Hat boxing community and its development.
Page was named to Medicine Hat’s Sports Wall of Fame in December 2020 and eventually inducted in 2021 due to COVID-19 limitations.
The Nieman/Page Memorial was dedicated to Nieman in 2005 before the annual event added Page’s name following the co-founder’s passing in 2016.
