The Medicine Hat College Rattlers cross-country women’s team made their presence felt against Canada’s best college runners over the weekend.

Medicine Hat runner Madison Scrimger ran her top race of the season Saturday at the 2022 CCAA cross-country nationals held in Truro, N.S. Scrimger finished 14th in the competition, with a time of 23:24.50 that was 50 seconds faster than her previous season’s best time.

Her teammate, Becky Ross, who finished seventh in last year’s CCAA championships held at MHC, had a tough race day battling a significant calf injury, toughing out a 42nd-place finish. Pyper Gill (78th) and Mizuki Iwata (86th) also completed the race for the Rattlers. Collectively, MHC’s women’s team finished 13th.

Hockey

The Rattlers women’s hockey team played only one contest over the weekend. Their first game of the weekend was supposed to take place Friday at Olds College, but was postponed due to transportation issues.

On Saturday, they hosted the Red Deer Polytechnic, falling 3-2. Kennedy King had a goal and an assist and Baili Isley added a goal as well. Kinlee Fahselt made 36 saves.

The Rattlers (0-9) head to Lakeland College on Friday before hosting the Rustlers on Saturday.

Volleyball

The Rattlers men’s volleyball team picked up their first win of the season on Friday. They beat the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in four sets (26-24, 25-23, 23-25, 27-24) at the Snake Pit. Jordan McKee led the Rattlers with 22 kills in the match.

The men dropped their second game of the weekend, falling in three sets (25-22, 25-12, 25-15) Saturday in a rematch with the Kodiaks. McKee was again the leader, notching seven kills.

The women’s team dropped both weekend contests against the Kodiaks, falling in four sets Friday (26-24, 25-19, 23-25, 25-16) and four sets again on Saturday (24-26, 25-23, 25-17, 25-20). Rebecca Scribner had 10 kills in Friday’s loss, with Anica Haberstock leading the way Saturday at 13 kills.

The men (1-5) and women (0-6) are at the University of Alberta-Augustana on Friday for their lone match this week.
