The Medicine Hat Tigers got on the board first Tuesday night and that’s about it. The Tigers allowed four unanswered goals to fall 4-1 at Victoria against the Royals. Medicine Hat came into the contest off an 9-2 win Saturday at Kelowna over the Rockets that kicked off their five-game B.C. road trip. The Tigers opened the scoring at the 8:29 mark with a goal from Brayden Boehm. The Nanaimo product skated through a pair of Royals’ defenders before sliding the puck five hole for a breakaway goal in front of friends and family in the stands. Rhett Parsons had the lone assist on Boehm’s third goal of the season. The game was all Victoria after that as goaltender Braden Holt turned aside 25 Tigers’ shots for the win. Victoria tied the game up at 1-1 with 2:47 left in the opening frame with Cole Reschny finding twine on a backhand move. The Royals outshot the Tigers nine to seven in the first period. Victoria continued their offence in the second period, scoring two goals within 1:45 of one another for a 3-1 lead. Robin Sapousek found the back of the net with the eventual game winner, knocking in a puck that bounced off the end boards. The Royals second goal of the middle stanza came from Reggie Newman who finished off a pass on a 2-on-1 breakaway for the insurance marker. Victoria led the game in shots 21-19 after 40 minutes. The Tigers pushed early in the third but could not maintain momentum nor could they complete passes as the Royals held Medicine Hat bay. The Tigers had chances on an early power play but were stymied by a post and crossbar. Victoria capitalized over halfway through the third period when Dawson Pasternak scored with 5:44 left in the game. The Royals held on for their fourth win of the season, beating the Tigers 4-1 and outshooting them 27-26. Evan May started the contest for the Tigers, turning aside 23 shots in his eighth start and ninth appearance of the season. The contest was also a homecoming for May who like Boehm, is a product of Nanaimo. The Tigers don’t have long to reflect on the loss, they head to Vancouver to face the Giants on Wednesday as they cross the halfway mark of their B.C. road trip. That contest in Langley gets underway at 8 p.m. MST. 10
