Drag Racing Association hosts three days of races

The Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association held 22 races across three days of action this weekend.

The competition got underway Friday with Medicine Hat’s Merl Mayer winning the Street Friday race. Jeff Wickenheinser of Dunmore came in second with Rogers Holmes of Medicine Hat in third.

Adam Hettler from Redcliff won the Friday night bike race, finishing ahead of Dennis Cotten of Medicine Hat.

Saturday’s action featured 14 races, kicking off with a Jr. Thunder race won by Ella Jennings of Medicine Hat. Paxton Frey, also of Medicine Hat, came in third place.

The Jr. Lightning race was won by Jeff Orr of Hanna with Darian Dopp of Medicine Hat coming in third.

Hope Burkitt of Dunmore captured the junior street race with Luke Munsch of Cypress County coming in third. Buz Buzunis of Airdrie won the sportsman race. Tyler Zeller of Medicine Hat came in first place in the pro race with fellow Hatter Perry Bell coming in second.

Medicine Hat’s Mark Simmons won the super pro race, with fellow local Ryan Phaff coming in third.

Zach Toth of Medicine Hat won the pro bike race with Dave Toth coming in third.

Dave Stickle of Hellakwa, B.C. won the pro fuel race, finishing ahead of Medicine Hat’s Aaron Barsness who came in third.

Roger Bouchard of Merritt, B.C. won the pro extreme race. Yellowknife’s Jeff Pitre took first place in the super gas race.

Riley Toth took first place in an all-Medicine Hat super bike race, with Zach Toth coming in second and Kyle Valk finishing third.

Calgary’s Adam Hettler won the street race, finishing ahead of Gerald Beatch from Medicine Hat coming in third.

Bruce Romano of St. John, B.C. took first place in the hot twin race and Edmonton’s Nikki Kidd rounded out the day with a first place in the crazy 888 race.

Sunday featured six races, kicked off by Brandon Peck of Carseland winning the Jr. Thunder race. Saxyn Schaufle of Desert Blume and Danica Jennings of Medicine Hat came in second and third place respectively.

Austin Markusson of Medicine Hat won the Jr. Lightning race and Paige Munsch of Cypress County took first place in the junior street race, with Hope Burkitt of Dunmore took second place.

Medicine Hat’s Don Bulpitt won the sportsman race with Blair Thorpe coming in third.

Monty Beagle from High River took first place in the pro race, with Adam Bell and Chance Edelmann, both of Medicine Hat, finishing second and third respectively.

Isaac Stettner of Regina won the super pro race, with Peyton Wilk of Medicine Hat coming in second.
