Rattler runners were in Calgary on Saturday to compete at the Jordan Fish Open at West Confederation Park. For the second week in a row, Rattler Becky Ross took first place, while recording a time of 23:57 over a rolling 6 km course. MHC’s Maddy Scrimger also received her second podium placement of the season, with a third-place finish after coming 50 seconds behind Ross. Other Rattlers’ women taking part included Pyper Gill (16th), Mizuki Iwata (20th), Annika Marshall (31st) and Kabri Stickel (33rd). Inclusive education runner Joanne Gonzales completed 4 km of the course. As a team, the MHC women were second behind Red Deer Polytechnic. In the men’s 8 km race, Rattler runners equalled their best placing in a full-field ACAC race, finishing in fourth. Veteran runners Harrison Lawson and Shintaro Iwata were the top MHC runners placing 17th and 19th respectively. Justin Jager (22nd), Jaiden Romaniuk (23rd), Tristan Scrimger (26th), Gage Smith (32nd) and Jon McKinley (38th), were the other MHC finishers. Rookie Spencer Wilson, who coach Bill Corcoran says is dealing with a knee injury, completed the first 5 km of the race. Next up for the Rattlers cross-country team is ACAC’s third event, taking part in Lethbridge on Sept. 30. Hockey The Rattlers’ women’s hockey team kicked off their debut season over the weekend, with two road exhibition contests against Lakeland College. The Rattlers lost 10-0 Friday and 2-0 on Saturday. They open their 2023-24 Alberta College Athletic Conference season with their homeowner Oct. 7 against the NAIT Ooks. Soccer MHC’s soccer teams were on the road over the weekend, facing off against the Ambrose Lions on Saturday. The Rattlers women’s team shutout the Lions 4-0 in their contest, led by Maisa Rebello’s two goals. Keandra Leslie and Molly Morris added MHC’s other two markers. Rylan Morhart made two saves in net. The Rattlers’ men’s team were shutout by Ambrose 2-0. They had seven shots on net and on the other side of the pitch, MHC keepers Maksymilian Slaweta and Noah Scolly each made a save. The women (2-1) and men (0-1-2) are on the road Saturday to face the SAIT Trojans before hosting the Lethbridge College Kodiaks on Sunday. 15
