The Medicine Hat College Rattlers cross-country team started the season on the right foot.

Two Rattler runners, Becky Ross and Madison Scrimger, led the pack Saturday by placing first and second respectively at the Concordia University of Edmonton Open at Gold Bar Park. The duo – both ACAC all-conference runners last season – started their second college seasons on a high note. Ross recorded a time of 24:44 on the hilly 6 km course, finishing 45 seconds ahead of Scrimger. Teammate Pyper Gill was forced to abandon her race at the 3.5 km mark due to an ankle injury.

Three MHC men also ran in Edmonton, with third-year Rattler Shintaro Iwata being the top MHC finisher, completing the the 8 km race in 33:42, good for 12th place. Jaiden Romanuik (16th) and Gage Smith (20th) also ran.

Also on Saturday, three Rattler runners took on the Futterwacken Trail Race in Elkwater. Second-year Rattler Harrison Lawson led rookie Tristan Scrimger in the battle for second place in the Men’s 10 km division. Both runners registered a time of 50:59 for the hilly, technical course. MHC’s Jon McKinley placed seventh.

Next up for Rattlers Running is ACAC #2 XC in Calgary next weekend.
