Speedway hosts Border Challenge

The Medicine Hat Speedway kicked off the first leg of the Border Challenge over the weekend.

The local raceway hosted the first of three races set up to find the top competitor in the Hobby Stock and Street Stock Classes. The first leg was hosted at the Med Hat Speedway on Saturday with the second leg set for August 19 at Regina’s Kings Park Speedway and the third and final scheduled for Sept. 9 at Saskatoon’s Sutherland Automotive Speedway.

Ethan Guest came in first place in the Standard Jeep Ram Hobby Stocks, finishing ahead of second and third place finishers Kerry Maertens and Geoff Shoesmith.

Spencer Jorgerson won the David GMC Elite Streets race, with Shawn Lowe and Trevor Neigum finished second and third respectively.

The Just Smok’n V6 race was won by Marcus Heib, who finished ahead of second place David Kerr and third place racer Jesse Voeller.

Ross Statham won the final race of the day, taking first place in the Relay/SJ Trucking Baby Grand race. Sarah-Jo Paquette and Karlen Deschner came in second and third place.

Next up at the Speedway is the Cooper Equipment Rentals Fan Appreciation race set for August 12. That day of racing will feature the classes of Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, V6 Bombers, Baby Grands and Minicup Cars.
