The local dragway hosted its annual National Open over the weekend, featuring 27 races across three days of action. Brandon Peck of Carseland, Alta. opened the weekend, winning Friday’s junior gamblers race. Darian Dopp of Medicine Hat took second place. Medicine Hat’s Chance Edelmann won the non-electric gamblers race, finishing ahead of Wayne Plester of Rimbey, Alta. Isaac Stettner of Regina took first place in the electronics gamblers races, with Tanner Gaetz of Medicine Hat finishing in second place. Saturday’s races kicked off with a repeat winner as Stettner took first place in the Super Pro races. Medicine Hat’s Todd Fleck came in second place. Monty Beagle of High River won the pro race with Brent Buckenham of Carseland, Alta. finishing in second place. Ashley Zeller of Medicine Hat won the sportsman race ahead of Redcliff’s Gerad Wagenaar. Strathmore’s Derek Rose won the motorcycles and sleds race, finishing ahead of local racer Dave Toth. Robert Schultz of Ridgeville, Man. won the super comp race, with Dale Dryden of Stettler taking second place. The super gas race was won by Hat racer Dave Burden, who finished ahead of Dale Dryden, of Stettler. Gareth Senkow of Seven Sisters Falls, Man. won the super street race, with Darren Pearce of Brandon, taking second place. Regina’s Barry Pollard won the ST/SST/Combo, with Clarence Bidniak of Edmonton coming in second place. The super quick/TD/TS race was won by Todd Fleck, with Stettner taking second. Junior hat racer Danica Jennings won the junior thunder race, finishing ahead of Carseland’s James Messier. Allyson Keim of Clareholm won the junior lighting race ahead of Dunmore’s Justus Schaan. Ryder Harrison of Baymond took first place in the junior street race, with Luke Munsch of Cypress County taking second. Brandon Peck of Carseland opened Sunday, the final day of races, with a win in junior thunder. Saxyn Schauffle of Medicine Hat took second place. Dunmore’s Justus Schaan took the junior lightning race, finishing ahead of Jeff Orr of Hanna. Ryder Harrison from Raymond took first place in the junior street race, with Paige Munsch of Cypress County coming in second place. Medicine Hat’s Todd Fleck won the super pro race, finished ahead of Barry Stettner from Regina. Local racer Doug Zeller won the pro race, with Chance Edelmann of the Hat taking second. Ted Buzunis of Fort McLeod won the sportsman race, with Medicine Hat’s Teagan Thorpe taking second place. The motorcycles and sleds race was an all local affair, with Hatter Zach Toth taking first place ahead of fellow local Dave Toth. Chilliwack, B.C.’s Emily Girard won the super comp race, finishing ahead of second place racer Robert Schultz of Ridgeville, Man. Austin Stettner of Regina won the super gas race, with Medicine Hat racer Dave Burden taking second. Darren Pearce of Brandon, Man. won the super street race with Gareth Senkow of Seven Sister Falls, Man. finishing second place. Clarence Bidniak of Edmonton won the ST/SST/Combo race with Regina’s Barry Pollard coming in second place.
