The Medicine Hat College Rattlers have announced a coaching change with their men’s volleyball team.

In a press release Tuesday the college named Trever Turner as the new head coach of the men’s volleyball team. Turner served as an assistant coach for the men’s team for the past two seasons under previous head coach Tyler Olson and is also the athletics and recreation facilities supervisor at MHC.

“We are happy to have Trever join our Rattlers coaching staff and take over the head coach position with the men’s volleyball team,” says Terry Ballard, manager of athletics and recreation. “He has extensive experience coaching college level volleyball in the ACAC and is an alumni of the Rattlers men’s volleyball team.

“Along with his experience, Trever brings with him an enthusiasm for volleyball, strong organizational skills, detailed planning and a strong competitive desire. We are fortunate to have him on our team.”

Turner has coached in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference for more than 30 years. At NAIT, he coached the women’s team from 1999-2007 and the men from 2007-2008. He then moved to The King’s University and served as the men’s head coach from 2008-2014 before taking the head coach position at Concordia University from 2014-2019. He was also a member of MHC’s coaching staffing from 1988-1999.

“I’m excited to take over the men’s program at MHC,” Turner says. “Tyler Olson has done an outstanding job with the team over the past number of years, and I look forward to building on his efforts. The student-athletes returning have the desire to succeed and we will work to compete in the strongest conference in Canada.”

The men’s volleyball team will be hosting an ID Camp on May 6 and 7 for anyone interested in playing for the Rattlers. The schedule for the upcoming season will be coming out in May.
