The Medicine Hat Mavericks have tabbed their bench boss for the upcoming Western Canadian Baseball League season. The Mavericks announced via social media Wednesday the hiring of Mark Goodman from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Col. to be their 2023 head coach. Goodman is in his second season with Mines Colorado, an NCAA Div. II school, and has coached 16 seasons of college baseball with stops at the Juco, NAIA and NCAA levels. Goodman has spent three summer seasons in the Northwoods League, where he helped the Mankato MoonDogs to the championship series. Goodman also played five seasons of professional baseball at the independent level, which was highlighted by striking out the MLB hall of famer Ricky Henderson in his pro debut. He takes the reigns from Tyler Jeske, who spent one season at the Mavericks’ helm and led them to an 18-38 regular season record before upsetting the division-winning Regina Red Sox in the first round of the playoffs then ultimately falling to the Moose Jaw Miller Express in the East Division final. The Mavericks open the 2023 season in Lethbridge against the Bulls on May 26, with the home opener set for the next day at Athletic Park. 8
