SAHA men end month on high note

The South Alberta Hockey Academy men’s U18 team capped off November with a winning weekend on the road.

SAHA took two of three, beating Shawnigan Lake School 6-2 on Friday, winning 5-4 Saturday against RINK Kelowna before losing 6-5 in the shootout on Sunday against the Burnaby Winter Club.

Gavin McKenna led the way Friday with two goals in their win against Shawnigan. Defenceman Matthew Paranych and forwards Noah Derouin Noah Dziver each had a goal and an assist and Kade Duell added a goal. Kaden McCann had three helpers on the night and Zach Zahara turned aside 30 shots.

Saturday against RINK Kelowna it was Dziver carry the offence, notching a goal and two assists. Forwards Ryan Miller, Brett Calhoon, Elias Eisenbarth and defenceman Kolby Gapter each added a goal. Between the pipes, Ethan McCallum had 27 saves in the win.

In their shootout loss on Sunday against Burnaby it was McKenna leading the way again, potting two goals and an assist. Forwards Nick McLennan and Calhoon each had a goal and two assists. Paranych added SAHA’s fifth goal of the game and Zahara made 32 saves across regulation and overtime.

The SAHA men’s team (11-3-0-2) have a three-game road slate this weekend, as they’ll battle the International Hockey Academy on Friday, Pilot Mound Academy on Saturday and Notre Dame on Sunday.

The SAHA women’s team (11-6-0-1) has their final game of 2022 on Saturday when they travel to face Edge School.
