jtubb@medicinehatnews.com Twitter: @ReporterTubb Friday night was all Medicine Hat Hawks at the Methanex Bowl. The Hawks scored early and often to win 62-0 over the McCoy Colts in Rangeland Football Conference action. Hat High head coach Quinn Skelton said he was happy with how his team carried out their style in the win. “We wanted the boys to execute all we could in practice to build off of our game last weekend with Lloydminster and just execute. We wanted to play our game tonight and not get caught up in anything else andI’m really happy with the way they come up and played tonight,” Skelton said. “We fired off real well and the boys responded, I liked it.” Across the field, Colts head coach Jole Krassman said the Colts just have to focus on getting better and drew a positive in how his team never lost their spirit. “We were cheering all the way till the end, we had some new guys come into the play, some young guys stepped up and we had some big plays,” Krassman said. “That never say die attitude is evident with our team and we just have to try to keep building off that, find the positives and and just keep it coming in waves.” The Hawks scored four times in the first quarter with three rushing touchdowns from Clarke Campbell and a recovery fumble turned touchdown from Christian Pinangay. In the second, Cole Ricken had a pick six, interception for a touchdown while Owen Steinke and Ira Hozack each scored a touchdown. Gavin Canavan scored the Hawks lone touchdown of the third quarter after a blocked punt and Kaeden Buckler had a touchdown in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring at 62-0. The Colts next action is back at the Methanex bowl next Friday night when they take on the Crescent Heights Vikings. Crescent Heights was in Brooks Friday night taking on the Bombers. The Hawks are on the road next Friday as they face Grande Prairie. Skelton said they will take some confidence out of their win against the Colts into that matchup as they were able to get their whole team involved. “We were subbing guys in right away in the first quarter and second quarter, so the whole second half our starters only played on special teams,” Skelton said. “Tonight allows us to get all of our kids off the bench and on the field. All three quarterbacks were playing, we had six different running backs in there and all of our Grade 10’s were on the field tonight. So experience and keeping kids engaged and enjoying the ball is a big key on a game like tonight.” 13
