The Medicine Hat Drag Strip celebrated 30 years of racing this weekend with three days of action. The races started Friday as Cole Caron from High River won the Junior Gamblers with Justus Schaan from Dunmore coming in second. Monte Beagle from High River took the Non-electronic Gamblers as Allan Kestner from Calgary was the runner up. Murray Hawker was the first Medicine Hat winner of the weekend, taking first place in the Electronic Gamblers race ahead of Jan Pokorski from Edmonton. Rachelle Fleck from Medicine Hat opened the Saturday races with a win in the Super Pro race ahead of fellow local Tanner Gaetz. Beagle also won the pro race ahead of Darcy Frey from Medicine Hat. Katie Archambault from Calgary took first in the Sportsman race with Medicine Hat’s Don Bulpitt taking second place. Two Medicine Hat products, Dave and Zach Toth finished first and second respectively in the motorcycles and sleds race. Reid Holland from Warman, Sask. took first in the Super Comp race ahead of Rick ‘The Ace’ Wagenaar from Redcliff, the runner up. Bill Cawsey from Regina won the Super Gas race with Dennis White from Brandon finishing second. Gerry Brown from Sherwood Park won the Super Street race with Krista Dryden from Stettler coming in second place. Saskatoon’s Sheldon Erfle won the ST/SST/Combo race with Alf Weibe from Chilliwack finishing in second. Todd Fleck from Medicine Hat won the Super Quick/TD/TS race and was followed up by fellow Hatter Mark Simmons. Hatter Ella Jennings won the Junior Thunder race ahead of Calgary’s John Nastink. High River’s Cole Caron took the Junior Lightning race with Gray Schaan from Dunmore finishing in second place. Schaan took first place in the Junior Street race with Luke Munsch from Cypress County the runner up. On Sunday, Gaetz won the first event, taking the top slot in the Super Pro race. Hatter Todd Fleck was the runner up. Gaetz also won Sunday’s Super Quick/TD/TS race with Erik Crooks from Brandon finishing second. Carseland’s Brent Buckenham won the Sunday Pro race ahead of Medicine Hat’s Chance Edelmann. Emily Hastings from Edmonton won the Sportsman race with Christina Dewar from Lethbridge finishing in second. Riley Toth from the Hat won the motorcycles and sleds race ahead of Jay Dudley from Calgary. Vegreville’s Grant Durie took first place in the Super Comp race ahead of Emily Girard from Chilliwack. Bill Cawsey from Regina won the Super Gas race finishing ahead of Andrew Sargent from Edmonton. The Super Street race was a Seven Sisters Falls finale as Fred Senkow and Gareth Senkow from the Manitoba town finished first and second respectively. Sheldon Erfle from Saskatoon won the ST/SST/Combo race with Darrell Stobbe the runner up. Hatter Danica Jennings won the Junior Thunder Race with Brandon Peck from Carseland coming in second. Morgan Caron from High River won the Junior Lightning race with Medicine Hat’s Darian Dopp finishing second. Luke Munsch from Cypress County won the Junior Street race ahead of Dunmore’s Gray Schaan. The Medicine Hat Drag Strip’s next race is a points weekend, running Aug. 5-7. 27
