Medicine Hat News sports@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat Tigers went without a win this weekend as they fell to Prince Albert 3-2 in the shootout on Saturday night. After being shutout by the Saskatoon Blades 4-0 on Friday night, the Tigers now sit 2-3-0-1 on the year. Medicine Hat shook off the cobwebs from Friday nights game and opened the scoring against the Radiers on Oren Shtrom’s first of the year, 1:27 into the first. Tyler Mackenzie and Aidan Brook picked up the assists on Shtrom’s goal, the only offense of the first period. The Tigers held a slim lead in shots at the end of the frame, 12-11 as they led by one in the goal column. The second period almost went by without a goal until Cale Sanders scored his first of the year for the Radiers on the powerplay to even up the game. Remy Aquilon and Nolan Allan assisted on the special teams marker 15:05 into the second period on a Mackenzie holding penalty. Prince Albert doubled down minutes later as Ozzy Wiesblatt, brother of Tiger Oasiz Wiesblatt, scored his fourth of the year to put the Raiders up 2-1 with 2:12 left in the second period. Reece Vitalli assisted on the goal as the Radiers ended the second period outshooting Medicine Hat 16-4 heading into the final frame. The Tigers didn’t let the Raiders enjoy their lead long as Noah Danielson scored his first of the year, 4:03 into the period to tie the game up at two a piece. Danielson’s un-assisted marker was the only goal of the period as the Tigers outshot Prince Albert 10-9 in the frame with both teams picking up a point in the tie. Overtime would solve nothing even as the Raiders outshot Medicine Hat 3-1 in the extra frame. In the shootout, the Raiders Weisblatt and Tigers’ Shtrom, were the first shooters and both failed to score. In the second round, Kaiden Guhle scored for Prince Albert and Lukas Svejkovsky, the Tigers shootout hero in their win against the Oil Kings last weekend, was stopped by Raiders net minder Carter Serhyenko. Vitelli started the third round for the Raiders and ended the shootout and the game with a goal on Tigers Beckett Langkow. Serhyenko, in his third year with the Raiders, stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced in Saturday night’s win to give him a 2-4 record to start the year in Prince Albert. For the Tigers, Langkow drawing in for his second start of the year, stopped 37 of the 39 shots he faced as he falls to 1-0-0-1 on the year. Medicine Hat comes off their two game Saskatchewan road trip with a point, as they look to get back into the win column on Tuesday against Swift Current. The Broncos come to Co-op Place for their third game against the Tigers early in the season with Swift Current winning the first two matchups. Puck drops Tuesday night in Medicine Hat at 7 p.m.. 14
