Janick Lacroix geared up for boxing nationals with a tough test south of the border.
Lacroix, the defending national junior middleweight champion, was in Hamilton, Montana Saturday where he edged state champion Bryson Kearny in the main event at U.S. Junior Olympic qualifiers.
“Janick ended up the winner but very close fight and a real crowd pleaser,” wrote his coach, Kerry Fahlman of the Medicine Hat Boxing Club. “He needed a tough bout before the Nationals…”
Fahlman said Lacroix nearly earned a stoppage win in the second round but Kearny made it through and gave the Hat boxer all he could handle in the third.
This year’s junior nationals are in Langford, B.C. starting April 23.
