Medicine Hat News

The Medicine Hat Travelodge Cubs had a two-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the High River Flyers on Saturday night at the Kinplex.

Jakob Jefferies and Brennan McPherson both had a goal and two assists and Tyler Alger added two helpers to lead the Flyers to a 4-2 victory over Medicine Hat despite being outshot 51-29.

McPherson opened the scoring for High River on an early power play, but Logan Robinson responded for Medicine Hat less than two minutes later to leave the teams even at the first intermission.

Tristan Stensrud pushed Medicine Hat out in front midway through the second period. The Cubs were poised to tack on when they were given a late power play a few minutes later, but Joshua Fleck took away the momentum with a shorthanded tally then Myles Leckie and Jefferies put the game away with back-to-back markers in the third.

Flyers goaltender Max Johnston weathered a storm with 49 saves to lock up the win and push High River to 11-19-4 on the season.

Dawsen Savage stopped 24 in the loss, dropping Medicine Hat to 15-14-3.

The Cubs return to the ice Saturday in Strathmore against the Wheatland Kings (15-14-3) at 8 p.m.
