Medicine Hat News
Medicine Hat Tigers Mads Søgaard, Josh Williams and Ryan Chyzowski were all named in NHL Central Scouting’s updated players to watch list last week.
Søgaard and Williams both earned B-ratings while Chyzowski picked up a C-rating after helping Medicine Hat to a 10-11-1-2 record.
Søgaard joined up with the Tigers in the off-season’s Canadian Hockey League import draft and has posted a 2.48 goals against average with a .930 save percentage — good enough for third in the WHL —and a 5-2-1-2 record to start his rookie season. Williams and Chyzowski are both on pace for career years, with Chyzowski recording nine goals and 10 assists in 23 games and Williams adding three goals and 10 helpers in 24 contests.
Scott scores
Prince Albert Raiders goaltender Ian Scott put an exclamation point on his week by scoring his first career goal in Friday’s 3-1 win over the Tri-City Americans.
The 19-year-old netminder posted a 0.33 goals against average and a .989 save percentage with a 3-0-0-0 record last week to earn CHL goaltender of the week honours.
Scott leads all WHL goaltenders in save percentage (.951), goals against average (1.37), wins (18) and shutouts (4), while his Raiders sit atop the WHL standings and hold the CHL’s No. 1 ranking with a near-perfect 21-1-0-0 record.
Division leads crack Top 10
All four WHL division leaders earned a place in the CHL’s Top 10 rankings Wednesday, with the East Division-leading Raiders holding the top spot for a sixth consecutive week.
The Central Division’s Red Deer Rebels sit seventh with a 15-5-1-0 record, while the US Division’s Everett Silvertips hold the ninth spot at 17-7-1-0, followed by the BC Division’s Vancouver Giants at 14-6-2-0.
