Medicine Hat News The Medicine Hat Rattlers women’s basketball squad strung together a third consecutive victory with a 61-57 nailbiter over the Trojans on Saturday at SAIT. Kiana Mintz led the Hat offence from the bench with 16 points, while Morgan Muir had 15 points and six steals and Hayley LePard added six points and 11 rebounds. Skyler MacDonald kept SAIT in the running with 14 points while Melanie Thera had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Medicine Hat improved to 7-1 with the win —leaving them with a two-point on the Olds Broncos for the top the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference South Division standings. SAIT slipped t 3-4 with the loss. Men’s basketball The Rattlers men’s basketball team fell to 5-3 on the ACAC season with an 85-65 loss to the SAIT Trojans Saturday. Jusci Thompson had a team-high 14 points from Medicine Hat’s bench while starter Jon Sappleton added 12 points and 13 rebounds in the loss. Ian Tevis led the Trojans into the win column with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while John Smith added 18 points. SAIT jumped to 7-0 with the win. The Rattlers basketball teams head to St. Mary’s to take on the Lightning Friday. Women’s volleyball The Briercrest Clippers women’s volleyball avenged Friday’s loss to the Rattlers with a straight sets victory in Saturday’s rematch at Medicine Hat College (25-23, 25-15, 25-15). Ashley Erickson powered Briercrest’s offence with a 19 kills in the victory. Becky Garner and Kirsty Kindrachuk both had eight digs on defence. Janelle Neyron put up 10 kills for Medicine Hat while Shaya Suchy led the defence with 13 digs. The loss leaves Medicine Hat at 6-4 on the ACAC season. Briercrest improved to 9-1 with the win. Men’s volleyball The Rattlers men’s volleyball met the same fate later Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets to the Clippers (26-24, 25-14, 25-19). The Clippers cruised to victory thanks to a varied attacked that featured 12 kills from Bryton Codd, 11 from Jordan Schnitzer and 10 from Mitchell Erickson. Schnitzer also added a team-high six digs. Alfred Dalevik led the Rattler attack, but was held to just eight kills in the loss. Austyn Ducharme posted a game-high 13 digs on defence. The loss leaves Medicine Hat at 6-4 on the ACAC season, while Briercrest jumped to 4-6. The Rattlers volleyball teams return to the Snake Pit to host the SAIT Trojans Friday. 22
