Medicine Hat’s organizing committee was celebrated last month for another successful set of chuckwagon races this summer.

At the World Professional Chuckwagon Association’s awards gala Oct. 13 in Calgary, Medicine Hat was given the top race committee award.

Committee chair Justin Derzaph accepted the honour on behalf of the entire group, which put on four well-attended race days June 14-17 at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede.

Cody Ridsdale’s wagon team won the dash for cash final heat ahead of Codey McCurrach and John Walters. But it was Walters who claimed the aggregate title and the most series points from the weekend.

Kurt Bensmiller won the WPCA championship, Rory Gervais was named the top outrider and Logan Gorst was named the association’s Chuckwagon Person of the Year, considered its highest honour.
