Medicine Hat News Though they didn’t make the playoffs, two Medicine Hat College soccer players earned some post-season accolades Thursday. In Calgary, where both the men’s and women’s Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference finals begin today, Rattlers Connor Ismond and Cassidy LaRochelle were named to their respective all-conference teams. Ismond, a third-year player from Saskatoon, was a team captain and defensive stalwart for a Hat team that went 4-7-1. “Connor has had an outstanding season giving his all at every practice and in every game,” said coach Ian Tully in a press release. “He has been an example to his teammates with his commitment, focus and dedication and has led by example as the team captain.” LaRochelle, also a defender but in her fifth and final year, took a leadership role on a young squad that went 2-9-1. “Cassidy is the true embodiment of what a college athlete should strive to be,” said coach Stephen Newton in the release. “Hard working, driven and above all committed.” The host SAIT Trojans took both male and female player of the year honours, with Deanna Kuan on the women’s and Dean Northover on the men’s side. Both Trojans teams enter the weekend as favourites, equally unbeaten at 12-0. Lethbridge coach Sean Carey was named coach of the year for both the men’s and women’s south conference. 10
