Medicine Hat News A total of 32 area athletes took part in the Alberta Schools Athletic Association cross country provincial finals in Vermilion Saturday, but there wasn’t a lot to bring home other than great experience and plenty of memories. Eagle Butte’s Brendan Olson had the top finish of anyone from the Medicine Hat area, finishing his 4 kilometre junior boys race in 15:18, good for 20th place in a field of 129. The winning time was 14:07. There were 21 Talons entered and they combined to finish fifth in the 3A team standings. Lethbridge’s LCI won the banner with 1,788.48 points, compared to Eagle Butte’s 660.31. Crescent Heights’ Bethany Regier had the top local placing among girls, 37th in the senior division. She finished the 5 km event in 24:35, five minutes back of the winner. As a team with four runners, the Vikings wound up 15th in 3A with 327.17 points. Edmonton’s Strathcona dominated on the day, taking 2,609.80 points to win the 4A banner. Hat High, with seven runners, was 23rd with 378.13 points. 7
