Hat’s Martin shares ACAC Women’s North Regional title

Medicine Hat College Rattlers golfer Becky Martin shared the top of the podium with Red Deer College’s Chloe Sies at the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference Women’s North Regional at Lac La Biche Golf and Country Club this weekend, while fellow Rattler Sierra Zukowski took third.

Martin shot a consistent 84-83-167 to earn the title while Sies rebounded from an opening-round 90 with a second-round 77 to match Martin’s efforts Sunday.

Zukowski rounded out the podium with an 83-86-169, giving the Rattlers a decisive victory in team stroke play —28 strokes ahead of Concordia at 167-169-336.

Fellow Rattler Ciara Bonogofski finished 16th with a 101-114-215.

On the men’s side, MHC’s Matthaus Taylor was in the running for the podium after opening with a first-round 78 Saturday, but the returning Rattler was forced to withdraw halfway through Sunday’s final round.

Medicine Hat’s Derek Whitson finished the weekend at 89-92-181 to take 25th, while Kent Lesko followed in 26th with a 90-93-183.

David Coleman finished 27th with a 90-95-185, Brady Resch took 36th at 104-92-196 and Keaton Sulz settled for 40th with a 98-100-198.

Mike Harrison of the University of Alberta Augustana won the event with a 75-74-149.

The ACACgolf season continues this weekend with the South Regional, hosted by Concordia University in Edmonton.
