He could’ve taken it easy into the trophy presentation, but Doug Voisey put a stamp on his season instead.
The Medicine Hat Auto Racing Association driver had a nearly insurmountable lead entering the season finale Saturday at the Speedway. His No. 44 car simply had to finish in the baby grand division to claim first spot, starting the day 38 points ahead of Dave Deschner.
Of course, one way of avoiding a wreck is leaving everyone behind you, which is what Voisey did in taking the main event victory.
Every one of the six divisions’ leaders entering the final night held on, with two other season champs also finding the podium one more time.
In renegade trucks is was Curtis Bigelow winning the overall title, adding a second-place main event finish behind Tony Lavine Saturdady.
Kaylee Wilkie was second only to Owen Harbour on the night, but nobody could catch her for the mini cups season trophy (though Harbour did wind up second).
The IMCA modified group didn’t race Saturday, leaving Jason Martin the season champ.
In hobby stock, Jake Sissons took the season series although it was James Dumont with the checkered flag in Saturday’s main event, ahead of both Robbie Gale and Rob Gale Jr.
Mitch Stovka had an insurmountable lead in the elite street stock division, with Trevor Guest driving his No. 66 car to yet another win to wrap up the summer. Trevor Stratton was second and Conner Hirch third.
In a bonus event Saturday, Kole George won a 6/8 cylinder race ahead of Sheryl Bigelow and Bonnie Wapping.
