The Medicine Hat-based Bulldogs Track and Field Club was in Sherwood Park this past weekend and saw a number of athletes earn medals at a meet that served as provincials for some age groups and a western Canadian competition for others.

According to Bulls coach Sean Freeman, Madison Kane-Rissling was a triple medalist in the under-20 division, one of them a provincial gold medal in high jump plus silver medals in long and triple jump.

Also in under-20, Renae Ryan took second in the 400 metre sprint.

Para-athlete Navarra Houldin added a pair of provincial silver medals, in 200 and 400 metre.

For under-18 and under-16 groups, the meet didn’t award provincial titles. Gage Reinhart won bronze in 400 metre hurdles, while Morgan Hale was part of a 4×400 metre relay team that took third in the under-18 category. Justina Renke was the lone under-16 medallist from the Bulldogs, silver in javelin.

Jayel Dovichak was among the athletes who came close to medals, but the good news for Dovichak is that there’s one more meet to go this summer. Dovichak and Elic Ayomanor are slated to compete at the Legion Youth Nationals next week in Manitoba. Ayomanor missed the meet in Sherwood Park due to injury.
