Medicine Hat News To get a personal best early in the swim season is no big deal. To do it on the biggest stage of your season? That’s what Delrae Vetter did this past weekend. At the Canadian Junior Championships in Winnipeg, the Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club star didn’t just get one personal best, she got five out of the six races she swam. Vetter, 13, competed in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,500 metre and open water freestyle events at nationals, consistently outdoing herself although not really threatening for any medals. Her best finish was the 1,500, in which she was seeded 45th but took an incredible 37 seconds off her old best time to wind up 25th. The open water race was the same length as the 1,500 metre, but outdoors at St. Malo Lake south of Winnipeg. There she finished 31st in a field of 53, her first time trying the open water format. 8
