The Medicine Hat K of C Knights closed out their American Legion Baseball A season with three losses on the road this weekend, but will have a week to fine tune before entering the North District Class A Tournament in Tri County, Mont.

After dropping a doubleheader to the Tri County Cardinals Saturday, 14-4 and 15-14, the Knights dropped a 12-2 contest to the Vauxhall Spurs over five innings.

Jaden Schwindt took the 14-4 loss to Tri County after allowing eight unearned runs on two hits and five walks while striking out six through four innings of work.

The Knights came back with a stronger effort — led by Carter Krauss’s four hit, 5 RBI outing — but they were unable to hold off the Cardinals despite a two-run lead in the seventh.

Drew Niwa took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits and two walks in Tri County’s comeback seventh inning.

Medicine Hat’s struggles continued Sunday in Vauxhall , where the Spurs took over an early lead and tacked on consistently to secure a mercy rule victory.

Niwa again took the loss after allowing 12 runs on nine hits and nine walks through 4 and 2/3 innings of work.

Ayden Matycio picked up Medicine Hat’s lone RBI in the setback.

The Knights will open the North District tournament July 26.

Monarchs miss out on post-season

The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs came one win shy of clinching the post-season following 3-2 and 11-5 losses to the Billings Scarlets Saturday.

The Monarchs managed to come within one run of forcing extra innings to open Saturday’s doubleheader, but their hopes were dashed when the tying run was picked off at first in the seventh.

Tyran George settled for the opening loss despite a strong performance on the hill. George limited the Scarlets to just three runs on seven hits over six complete innings while striking out five and walking one.

Cavan Kolody led the offence with a 2-for-4 performance, while Zach Stark provided the team’s only other hit in a 1-for-4 outing.

While Medicine Hat managed to pick up the offence for the second game, they were unable to keep Billings at bay in a nine-run fifth inning, which ultimately did the Monarchs in for the season.

The Scarlets burned through three Monarch pitchers in the frame while collecting seven hits — which included singles, a double, a triple and a home run — to flip a 3-1 deficit into a 9-3 lead.

The Monarchs managed to start up a rally in the seventh, but it was cut short at two runs.

Stark led the Monarchs with two hits and 1 RBI in the loss.
