Nobody’s been in Ryan Hodgins’ league on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour this summer.
Until now.
Hodgins, tuning up for the national junior championships with an MJT stop in Calgary this week, had solid rounds of 68, 77 and 74 at the par-72 McKenzie Meadows Golf Club but had to settle for second place. The 16-year-old was seven shots back of 14-year-old Hunter Thomson, whose score was better than anybody regardless of age group.
Hodgins was still eight shots ahead of the third-place finisher in the 31-person juvenile boys division. He’ll be in the hunt for a national title on his home course at Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club starting July 29.
A few other Hatters played the MJT stop in Calgary. Sam Bratvold was 17th in juvenile with rounds of 80, 84 and 82, just ahead of Nolan Burzminski (78-87-84), who wound up 19th.
