Medicine Hat News The Medicine Hat Mavericks got a step closer to the playoffs, even though they didn’t play. Despite their scheduled game in Regina called off due to thunderstorms in the area, the Mavericks’ magic number for guaranteeing a spot in the Western Major Baseball League post-season shrank to three when Brooks lost 6-4 to Okotoks. Both Brooks and Fort McMurray are 10-21, with 16 games left to play. Medicine Hat, at 24-5, needs any combination of three wins or Brooks/Fort McMurray losses to guarantee a spot ahead of them. They have to get the magic number against each team to zero to clinch a top-four placing. Medicine Hat and Regina will play a doubleheader of seven-inning games tonight, then the Mavs return home Friday to begin a four-game set with Fort McMurray. They’ll play Friday at 7:05 p.m., Saturday at 3:05 p.m. and again at 7:05 p.m., then finish the series with a 2:05 p.m. game Sunday. 6
