The Medicine Hat K of C Knights put their right foot forward Friday night at Athletic Park.

Starting arm Heydon Harrison held the St. Albert Cardinals to just two hits in a 10-0 mercy-rule shutout to kick off Medicine Hat’s home UCTA American Legion Baseball Tournament with a big win.

Harrison struck out six while walking one and facing just two over the minimum to lock up the victory.

Brandon Hauck put Medicine Hat on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first — opening the floodgates for the blowout to come.

Ayden Matycio and Kaitlyn Ross crossed on an error by the catcher and a wild pitch, respectively, to close out the opening frame, then the bats went back to work in the second.

Hauck struck again, this time with an RBI single, then Harrison stepped up to bring Hauck home with an RBIdouble in the following at-bat.

Harrison went on to steal home later in the inning before Jaden Schwindt stretched the lead to 7-0 with an RBI infield single.

Matycio drove in another run at the tail end of the third, then a wild pitch and an RBIsingle from Carter Krauss pushed the game into mercy rule territory in the fourth.

Harrison tossed a clean fifth to close out the game.

Hauck led the offence with 2 RBIin a 2-for-2 outing while Ross went 2-for-3.

The Knights return to the diamond for a pair of games Saturday at Athletic Park to close out round robin play — first against the Calgary Blues at noon then versus the Moose Jaw Canucks at 5:30 p.m.

The top two squads from each four-team division will advance into Sunday’s semifinals —slated for 9 a.m. at McCoy and Jeffries Field — with the winners moving on to the championship game, 2:30 p.m. at Jeffries Field. Consolation games for third and fourth place teams are scheduled for Sunday at 11:45 a.m.
