JohnWalters is on pace to reclaim his World ProfessionalChuckwagon Association Medicine Hat title.
The Delburne, Alta., product took the top time at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede for a second consecutive night — besting Thursday’s 1:03.28 with a time of 102.27 Friday — to lead the aggregate by nearly two seconds at 2:05.55 entering Day 3.
Walters — who took top spot in Medicine Hat in 2015 — will be in aim to lock up a place in Sunday’s coveted 12th heat with a clean run Saturday.
Kirk Sutherland sits second in the aggregate with a combined time of 2:07.23. Sutherland cruised to victory in the 10th heat with a time of 1:03.32 to keep on Walters’ heels after two days.
Codey McCurrach holds third in the aggregate after winning the 11th heat in 1:03.41 to put his combined time at 2:07.39, but his lead on fourth is anything but safe. Evan Salmond sits right on his heels at 2:07.40 after winning Friday’s main event over Kurt Bensmiller and Cody Ridsdale with a time of 1:03.48.
The chuckwagons will be back on the track Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday’s at 2 p.m.
