Medicine Hat News He’s a national champion and now Janick Lacroix is branching out even further. The Medicine Hat Boxing Club athlete is headed to Las Vegas next week to compete in the massive Roy Jones Jr. Tournament. Coach Kerry Fahlman says there will be upwards of 1,000 competitors at the international card. Already named Boxing Alberta’s boxer of the year, Lacroix finished off the provincial campaign in style this past weekend. At Red Deer for the Golden Gloves tournament, he scored a unanimous decision over Edmonton’s Ethan Pasek in the 75 kilogram open junior division. Fahlman said that was only supposed to be the semifinal, but Lacroix had beat the other finalist three times in the first round. “His opponent pulled out 10 minutes before the match, can’t say I blame him,” wrote Fahlman in an email to the News. Lacroix was given the Golden Boy award as the weekend’s top pugilist. 7
