The Medicine Hat Sun Devils swept their weekend homestand while exacting a bit of vengeance on Sunday at the Kinplex.

After opening their season with an 11-6 setback at the hands of the Calgary Axemen, the Sun Devils returned the favour Sunday in a rousing 17-12 victory — pushing Medicine Hat back to the .500 mark at 4-4 on the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League junior B Tier 2 season.

“The boys really came out to play,” said Zach Wilson, who led the Sun Devils with five goals and four assists in Sunday’s win. “Earlier in the season Iactually wasn’t there (in Calgary), so when I heard about it and just came into the dressing room and said, ‘Boys, they shouldn’t have won against us the first time so let’s show them that we are a better team.’ We just came out and played a lot better than them.”

Izaak Loran followed up Wilson’s efforts with five goals of his own, while captain Damon Phillips matched Wilson’s nine-point outing with two goals and seven assists and Aidan McLean added two goals and five helpers.

Calgary’s Kyle Thomas did all he could to keep his Axemen in the contest with a four-goal afternoon, but his efforts proved fruitless.

Sunday’s win follows up Saturday evening’s 15-5 blowout over the Rockyview Rage.

Wilson once again led Medicine Hat’s offence with a staggering eight goals and three assists while Phillips added five assists, Loran had a hat trick and three helpers and McLean finished with three goals and two assists.

Josh Olson led the Rage with three goals on the night and Jacob Decker added a goal and two assists.

Medicine Hat will look to break the .500 mark when they head to Olds to take on the Singers Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The Sun Devils will close out their weekend road trip Sunday against the Heat in High River.
